Books
Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow by Gabrielle Zevin. Some books are so good they ruin you a little—because you’ll never get to read them for the first time again. This is one of those. It follows Sam and Sadie, two childhood friends who bond over video games and eventually build their own gaming empire. It’s about friendship, ambition, and the messy beauty of making things. One of my all-time favorite fiction reads—that I keep recommending to friends over and over.
Films
Conclave (2024). [Amazon Prime | Apple TV+] Vatican politics? Secret backroom deals? The slow, dramatic unfolding of who will become the next pope? Yes, please. This thriller about the election of a new pope is packed with intrigue, power plays, and enough suspense to make you momentarily consider a career shift (before remembering you enjoy sleeping in on Sundays). It’s an Oscar frontrunner—for good reason—but my personal favorite of the year is still Anora.
Say Anything (1989). [Hulu | Amazon Prime] You know the famous scene—John Cusack, the boombox, the window, the grand romantic gesture. But this movie is more than just a single iconic moment. It’s one of the best rom-coms of all time, and one that holds up surprisingly well. The tagline says it all: “To know Lloyd Dobler is to love him.” If you don’t know him yet, fix that immediately.
Babygirl (2024). [Amazon Prime | Apple TV+] Fair warning: This is the absolute last movie you’d want to watch with your family. It’s about a high-powered CEO beginning an affair with a young intern. Dark, uncomfortable, and brilliantly acted, with Nicole Kidman delivering an amazing performance. The tension builds in ways that make you squirm, but you won’t be able to look away.
Memento (2001). [Amazon Prime | Apple TV+] This Christopher Nolan classic still rocks. Memento is a psychological puzzle that’s just as gripping on your fifth watch as it is on your first. If you’ve somehow avoided it all these years, consider this your sign to change that.
Shows
Severance Season 2. [Apple TV+] This show is so good, I savor every episode and refuse to let myself binge it. Where is it going? No clue. Do I trust it completely? Also no. But I’m strapped in for the ride. Bonus: The You You Are—a self-help book featured in the show—is now available for free on Apple Books.
Slow Horses Season 3 & 4. [Apple TV+] I’ve been slowly making my way through this series and it gets better with every season. The premise? British spies, but make them dysfunctional. Gary Oldman plays a washed-up, perpetually annoyed intelligence boss wrangling a group of misfit spies. If you like your spy thrillers with a side of dry humor and questionable life choices, this one’s for you.
Music
99 Nights by Charlotte Cardin. A stunning album—bluesy guitar riffs, pulsing drums, electronic textures, and a soulful, hypnotic voice. The title track, “99 Nights,” is beautiful, but the entire album is worth getting lost in.
