From time to time, instead of my usual email with one big idea you can read in 3 minutes or less, I share with you the best of what I’m reading, watching, and exploring. Enjoy!
Podcasts
Telepathy Tapes. This podcast melted my brain (in the best way). A documentarian and a Harvard researcher team up to explore telepathy—yes, telepathy—in nonverbal autistic children. It sounds out there, but the science appears rock-solid and the experiments will make you rethink what’s possible. Go in curious and stay for the mind-bending revelations.
Films
Anora (2024). [Amazon Prime | Apple TV+] This film stayed with me long after I watched it. Mikey Madison is brilliant as a Brooklyn sex worker who marries the son of a Russian oligarch on a whim. It made me want to laugh and cry at the same time.
Deja Vu (2006). [Amazon Prime | Apple TV+] Just when I thought I’d seen every time travel film, I stumbled across this Denzel Washington gem. Deja Vu is part thriller, part mind-bender, and all kinds of awesome. Yes, it’s got a few plot holes, but who cares when the ride is this fun?
A Real Pain (2024). [Hulu] Kieran Culkin deserves an entire trophy case for this one. The film follows two estranged cousins who travel to Poland to explore their shared heritage. It’s funny, heart-wrenching, and weirdly cathartic—kind of like group therapy, but with better writing.
Almost Famous (2000). [Criterion Channel | Amazon Prime] I rewatched this recently, and it holds up so well. The film follows a teenage journalist who lands the assignment of a lifetime: covering an up-and-coming rock band for Rolling Stone. It’s a heartfelt coming-of-age story about music, identity, and chasing dreams, with a killer soundtrack to match. If you haven’t seen it, you’re in for a treat. If you have, it’s time for a reunion tour.
Thelma (2024). [Hulu | Amazon Prime] A really fun, lighthearted watch. The film follows a feisty grandmother who gets duped by a phone scammer and goes on a quest to reclaim her money. June Squibb, at 93, puts Tom Cruise to shame with the stunts she pulls on set.
Shows
Bad Sisters: Season 2. [Apple TV+] The second season of this show delivers all the dysfunction, secrets, and dark humor you loved in the first season—and then some. The Garvey sisters are back, and the stakes are higher, the jokes are sharper, and the drama is juicier.
Music
Nothing’s Real by Shura. [Spotify] This album is like stepping into an ‘80s dream—gauzy synths, R&B grooves, and enough nostalgic vibes to keep you dancing or daydreaming (or both). “Indecision” and “Touch” are two standout tracks for me.
